Coca-Cola, Dollar Tree sued after falling objects injure woman

Washington, D.C., property owners have a responsibility to keep their premises safe for the public. This includes not only maintaining an environment free from slip-and-fall dangers, but also from falling objects. When they fail to do so, they may be subject to premises liability lawsuits by any parties injured due to their negligence, such as in a recently filed case in another state.

A woman is suing both the Coca-Cola company and the Dollar Tree store where the alleged incident took place after, she claims, a display of soda products fell on top of her, resulting in her suffering serious injuries. In April of last year, the plaintiff was shopping when a rack containing a display of various Coca-Cola products apparently collapsed. The lawsuit alleges that the products and the parts of the display itself were not secured or displayed properly, which led to the injurious avalanche of bottles, cartons and other products.

The product display collapse allegedly caused a number of injuries to the woman's body. The plaintiff complains of damages to her shoulder, neck, limbs and body, as well as a shock to her system. The lawsuit accuses the defendant of failing to adequately support the store display's foundation.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that this negligence and its negative consequences to the plaintiff's health was due to the defendants' failure to maintain safe premises or to warn shoppers of the hazardous conditions present. For these claims of negligence and others against each of the defendants individually, the injured woman is seeking damages to exceed $50,000. Any shoppers in Washington, D.C. who might similarly find themselves in pain and facing mounting medical bills due to the hazardous conditions caused by falling objects or other negligently maintained premises may wish to explore their own options for pursuing just compensation by consulting an experienced local premises liability attorney.
