Chain-reaction car accident claims life of young Maryland woman

A chain-reaction motor vehicle collision tragically claimed the life of a young Maryland woman. The car accident occurred early on a recent Thursday morning when the 21-year-old victim was leaving her place of work. A pickup truck following behind the young woman's car struck her vehicle from behind, forcing her car into a minivan that was stopped as both drivers waited at a traffic signal.

According to police, the pickup driver failed to stop or slow as he approached the victim's car, and the force of the collision when he rammed her vehicle from behind critically injured the woman. She was removed from the scene and transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries. Reports indicate that the driver of the minivan was unhurt.

The pickup's driver and passenger -- both volunteer firefighters -- suffered injuries themselves but survived. According to witnesses, the passenger of the truck was seen speaking to and attempting to flirt with the now-deceased woman immediately before the accident. Officials are investigating video footage from a security camera in the bar where the young woman worked in an attempt to determine whether the interaction in the parking lot in any way contributed to the ensuing collision.

Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed yet. However, police do suspect that both speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal car accident. Unrelated to any criminal charges that may be forthcoming pending police inquiry, the family of the deceased victim may exercise their right to explore legal options for justice and compensation with an experienced Maryland or Washington, D.C. personal injury attorney. While monetary damages awarded in a successfully litigated wrongful death suit cannot restore a loved one, such funds are often used for expenses such as funeral costs. A successful lawsuit can also sometimes give grieving families a sense of justice.
