Accurate diagnosis can make a big difference in health outcomes

Most residents of Washington, D.C. and, indeed, across the nation, rely on the experience and training of health care professionals on an almost daily basis, either for themselves or for their ailing family members, friends and loved ones. When they get sick, they trust their doctors to make an accurate diagnosis so that they can receive the treatment or medication they need. Unfortunately, a man in another state alleges that physicians at a medical facility failed to do just that.

The individual has filed a complaint in circuit court against the doctors who failed to properly treat him and against the medical facility where they are employed. The suit claims that the physicians failed to diagnose his stroke. According to the complaint, the man was taken to the medical center via ambulance because he was exhibiting stroke-like symptoms.

At the medical center, the stroke team was alerted. The complaint alleges that, of the two defendants on the stroke team, one did not appear at the hospital until 15 hours after the ailing plaintiff had arrived. The other doctor allegedly misdiagnosed the man as suffering from a transient ischemic attack.

Because the defendants allegedly failed to provide correct treatment, the plaintiff is holding both physicians and their medical facilities responsible. Their failure to provide an accurate diagnosis meant that they were unable to offer early intervention, which could have made a difference in the plaintiff's health outcome. For this, he is requesting a trial by jury and seeking compensatory damages, legal fees and other relief as the court sees fit. Washington, D.C. individuals who have similarly suffered injury due to the negligence or gross error of medical professionals have the same right to speak with an attorney experienced in medical malpractice cases, to discuss their options for pursing justice and possible compensation for their pain and suffering.
