Wal-Mart involved in premises liability suit over chicken grease

Store owners in Washington, D.C. and across the country have the responsibility to ensure that their customers have a safe shopping experience, free from hazards. When they fail to do so, innocent shoppers may suffer. In a recently filed premises liability case in another state, a woman is suing Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., after she says she experienced just such an incident.

The plaintiff lodged a complaint against the retail giant Wal-Mart, alleging that the store was negligent and did not take sufficient measures to prevent the injuries she experienced two years prior on its premises. She claims that the store failed to keep the floor free from foreign substances, resulting in an accident. The complaint alleges that on April 17, 2015, chicken grease had leaked out of a container onto the store's floor.

The complaint asserts that Wal-Mart is responsible because it did not remove the hazardous, slippery material from the floor. It's also claimed that the store did not provide signs warning customers of the potential fall risk. For her fall and injuries, the plaintiff is requesting trial by jury and seeking damages to cover court costs and monetary relief as the court grants.

Anyone in the Washington, D.C. area who has been injured in similar circumstances may benefit from the counsel of an attorney with experience in premises liability litigation. A business's failure to provide a safe environment should not result in the injured victim bearing the financial burden of any resultant damages. A seasoned lawyer may be able to offer valuable legal advice on grounds for a suit seeking compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages and more.
