Lawsuit alleges Keurig brewers a dangerous product

Coffee is considered almost a dietary staple in many Washington, D.C., households, and while they may not all have a Keurig brewer, a number likely do. Frighteningly for coffee drinkers though, this common household appliance may, in fact, be a defective and dangerous product. In another state, Liberty Mutual Insurance is suing the company that produces the Keurig brewer after one of its units allegedly caught fire and caused extensive damage.

The insurance company is suing Keurig Green Mountain Inc. for an incident involving $100,000 worth of damage to the home of a family. While renovations were completed, the family had to initially vacate the home for a period of time, then live in the basement for several months while the repairs continued. Luckily for the family, not only did they have insurance to cover the damages, but no one was seriously injured in this incident.

Other Keurig users have not been so lucky in the past. In 2014, the company was forced to recall over six million brewers after consumers suffered burns to their faces, hands and bodies from sprayed hot water and coffee grounds erupting from the device. Even more recently, a number of users have reported that the brewer has caught fire during use.

The current lawsuit that Keurig is facing alleges that the product is unsafe and should not be on store shelves. Washington, D.C., consumers may wish to familiarize themselves with the possible hazards associated with this potentially dangerous product. If anyone has been seriously burned or suffered injuries due to this or any other defective household appliance, they may benefit from seeking the legal counsel of an attorney with experience in product liability cases. A lawyer would be able to provide information about avenues for seeking compensation, such as a product liability lawsuit.
