Car crash near Washington, D.C. seriously injures deacon

The car accident that occurred just outside Washington, D.C. may, police believe, have involved car racing. Whether this is the case or not, the car crash left a 64-year-old Catholic deacon fighting for his life. The man was seriously injured on his way to evening Mass on Feb. 11.

The deacon was turning left from a southbound lane at around 5:30 p.m. that Saturday evening when, according to police reports, a car heading north crashed into his vehicle. Police believe the car that collided with him was speeding and may even have been racing against another driver. Apparently, a third driver later returned to the crash scene; police say this man is cooperating with authorities.

The deacon suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He suffered a loss of mobility of his right arm and multiple fractures, as well as initial bleeding in his brain that later stopped. The 23-year-old driver of the car that hit him was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.

No charges were immediately filed against the other driver in this Maryland accident, but the investigation is ongoing. As current details seem to indicate fault on the part of the apparently-speeding driver that collided with him, the deacon may choose to file a personal injury suit, if he so chose. In fact, anyone in Washington, D.C. or the surrounding area who has been injured in a car crash due to another driver's negligence has every right to consult a personal injury attorney.
