D.C. man charged after car accident results in death of passenger

A Washington, D.C. man was charged recently with second-degree murder. The defendant ran a red light in his car and crashed into a Metrobus. Tragically, the car accident resulted in the death of the car's passenger.

On Oct. 12 in Southeast Washington, the driver involved was traveling west on Suitland Parkway at around 10 p.m. when he failed to stop at a red light. His car collided with a southbound Metrobus that was traveling on Stanton Road. The suspect himself was critically injured in the crash.

The driver of the bus and its three passengers all suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals. The 19-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, the driver was arrested on a warrant as soon as he recovered from the injuries he had suffered as a result of the crash.

While no one on the bus was severely injured, the accused's negligent driving appears to have resulted in the death of his passenger, and he is now facing murder charges. The family of the deceased passenger has every right to contact a personal injury lawyer and explore their options in pursuing a wrongful death suit. Any residents of Washington, D.C. who have lost a family member or loved one in a car accident due to the negligent driving of another have the right to seek legal counsel. Monetary damages awarded in a successfully presented case can be used toward such things as funeral costs and to compensate the grieving family for their emotional pain and suffering.
