Medicated stents might come with some risks

Patients who have atherosclerosis might be told that they are candidates for medicated stents. These medical devices work to keep the narrowed artery open to allow blood flow through it. The stent is a lattice-like tube. If it is a medicated stent, it has a coating of slow release drugs that helps to reduce the possibility that the artery will be close again or become blocked.

As is the case with many medical devices, medicated stents aren't for everyone, and they come with some very serious risks. If you are considering a medicated stent, your doctor should discuss the risk factors and contraindications for the stents with you before you have the procedure done to have them insterted.

People who allergic to any component of the stent shouldn't have the device inserted. People who aren't able to take blood thinners, those who have recently had heart surgery, pregnant women, and nursing women are examples of people who shouldn't get this device.

There are several risks of drug-coated stents, which include risks of the actual device and risk of having it inserted. These risks include bleeding, blood clots, infection, allergic reactions, the stent becoming clogged, and the sent moving. Other issues are also possible, so you should discuss anything that concerns you with your doctor.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved medicated stents, but the agency is still monitoring the patients who have had them. The FDA is looking at the incidence of issues with these stents. If you suffer from an issue with a medicated stent, you should let a medical professional know. You can also explore the option of seeking compensation for the issues.
