Truck accident facts: Why truck accidents are so dangerous

If you've been in an accident recently, you know how seriously you can get hurt. Besides the injuries you suffer, you also have to deal with the damage to your vehicle and a loss of wages when you can't work. You miss out on social activities and may have to live with a disability. All of these reasons are why you need to file a claim after an accident, so you can focus on your recovery.

Commercial truck accidents can be deadly to those in passenger vehicles, on motorcycles, or even to pedestrians. These accidents are typically more catastrophic than others because of the heavy weight of a loaded vehicle.

Loaded big rig vehicles can weigh up to 25 times the amount of a passenger vehicle. That's why many collisions with these vehicles end up being fatal. Statistics have shown that large truck crashes account for around 4,995 fatalities a year, according to the 2006 report, and many thousands of other people are also injured. Trucks can carry hazardous materials like flammable liquids or industrial waste, too, which poses an entirely different threat to drivers.

While not all accidents are the fault of a truck driver, many are. If you're involved in an accident, you'll need to prove that negligence took place. You'll need to show that the driver owed you a duty of care (like driving safely), that he did not exercise that duty of care, and that failing to perform that duty led to your injuries. If you can prove all these factors of your case, you'll be in a position to win.
