1 killed in Washington, D.C. collision involving van and trucks

Traffic accidents can happen suddenly, claiming the lives of innocent people. These accidents affect you in so many ways; families mourn their losses, while individuals who survive and are hurt struggle to recover. Financially, the loss of wages and income can be devastating, and mounting bills add to the burden.

If you're suffering the loss of a loved one and are affected financially by your loved one's death, you can file a claim for compensation. While the authorities can choose to file charges, you can obtain compensation with the help of your attorney by seeking and insurance settlement or working to file a civil lawsuit.

Crashes often take the lives of those who are young, like in this case involving a teen traveling to a new place. A 19-year-old man was on a trip to Washington, D.C. when he was involved in a traffic crash that resulted in his death. According to the Virginia State Police, the man had been a passenger in a van that was driving on the highway in the area when a pickup truck suddenly drove into the van's path, hitting it.

Initially, those in the van were not badly injured; the people inside did attempt to leave the vehicle following the collision. As they were leaving the vehicle, a tractor-trailer collided with the van. The secondary impact of the tractor-trailer resulted in the 19-year-old's death. No one else was reported as being injured in the collision.

As of the report, the police were able to place a charge against the pickup truck's driver. The driver was cited for failing to yield to the van driver's right of way.
