Hoverboards given as gifts cause grief this holiday season

Hoverboards were a popular holiday gift this year; however, some people who received them found out that they are just an accident waiting to happen. These two-wheeled boards aren't all that easy to ride. Many riders found themselves having to seek medical aid for injuries that occurred when they crashed the hoverboards or fell off of them.

Reports of broken bones, concussions, and lacerations requiring stitches dominated the hoverboard-related posts on Christmas Day. As is the case with many devices that are ridden, wearing proper protective gear can help to prevent some injuries. But, that might not be enough to stop all injuries.

On top of the risks of injuries, some hoverboards have been catching on fire. The incidents of fire were so prevalent that Amazon completely stopped selling hoverboard brands that were using shortcuts considered hazardous during production. Interestingly, lithium ion batteries are used in almost all of these hoverboards.

All of the negative reports of hoverboard accidents bring up the important question of product liability. Manufacturers of products are required to ensure that products they sell are safe when they are used in the intended manner. Any dangers should be disclosed so purchasers of the products know those dangers.

If you were injured while using any gift you received, you might choose to seek compensation for your injuries. It is vital that you explore the elements of law that might apply to your case so that you can determine how you want to handle your claims. If you pursue compensation, you might seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and other damages associated with the injuries you suffered.
