General Motors in the news for another recall for engine fires

If you've been in a car accident because of a malfunction or defect, then you know how important it is to talk to your attorney and work to get the compensation you need. There is a limited amount of time that you have to make a claim, especially when recalls are involved. This case may be similar to yours, or it may be something that affects you directly.

A report from Oct. 27 states that General Motors has had to make another recall for over 1.4 million vehicles; these cars have the potential for oil leaks that can lead to engine fires. These fires can lead to explosions and serious injuries or deaths.

This recall is the third in the last seven years that General Motors has had to issue. The company decided to issue the recall after learning that the first two recalls issued and the repairs that were made weren't enough to stop the cars from catching on fire. Instead, over 1,300 vehicles burst into flames, most just after the vehicles had been turned off.

This issue has been happening since 2007, according to the news. At least 17 of 267 car fires known about by 2008 had caused structures to be set alight or burned, too. That means that people inside homes with attached garages, for example, could have been at risk of a house fire from the vehicle's flames.

The cause of the fire seems to be a valve cover gasket that has been prone to leaking, allowing oil to spill onto the exhaust manifold and catch fire.
