What is drugged driving?

Just like drunk driving, drugged driving is dangerous for people on the road. There are all kinds of impairing substances available legally and illegally today, so it's not difficult for a person to get high or to be inebriated. The problem isn't that a person has chosen to get drunk or high -- it's that the person has chosen to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and put your life at risk.

Drugged driving is an increasing problem in society, but there are few studies following it specifically. Why is that? Many of the studies for drunk driving or driving while intoxicated include drugged driving as a kind of intoxication.

What kind of injuries could you suffer from an accident with a drugged driver? Anything from lacerations and whiplash to life-threatening burns from an explosion or car fire. If you've been in an accident with a drugged driver, you may have been hit at a high speed or odd angle. The vehicle may not have slowed, because the driver's reaction times are too slow. Combined with heavy traffic or intersections, drugged drivers can cause crashes that impact the lives of many.

Drugs affect the body's coordination, judgment, tracking abilities, perception, attention span and reaction time. By slowing down a person's reactions, reducing the ability to make good decisions and making the driver more prone to distractions, drugs really can cause life-and-death situations.

The safest choice is to drive sober, and if your injuries were caused by a drugged driver, you deserve to have justice for the pain you've been caused because of the driver's poor decisions.
