Brain injury study shows lasting effects in children

If you've suffered a traumatic brain injury or have a child who suffered an accident like a concussion or bleeding on the brain, you may have noticed some behavioral changes. It's not uncommon for changes to occur, at least in the short term, because the brain has been damaged. The most important step in treating these conditions is seeking medical help, and if your case was caused by negligence, seeking the compensation you need to cover the help you need now and in the future.

Head injuries can cause a number of serious conditions to people of all ages. A traumatic brain injury, for instance, can lead to repercussions over time, nor just the initial problems like bleeding on the brain or memory loss.

A study performed in the Netherlands found that in a study of 113 kids who suffered a traumatic brain injury between the ages of 6 and 13, the children exhibited higher attention-span issues and also anxiety. This study was covering children at approximately 1.5 years after the injuries were suffered.

Not all children suffered the same effects, the lead author of the study reported. The severity of the TBI, along with other factors, often determined the severity of the effects. Interestingly, while the research didn't investigate treatment options for these children and their lapses in attention, there have been studies that suggested that stimulants can successfully help those who have suffered from childhood cancer or Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder. This information could be applied to those with TBIs to see if stimulants can help the child focus once again.
