Car accidents can be a real pain in the neck

Whiplash is an injury that can lead to serious problems after a car accident. There are some people who think of whiplash as a fake injury. Some of those people might have gotten the idea from the episode on Sanford and Son when Bubba is able to convince Fred to fake a whiplash injury after a minor accident. The truth of the matter is that whiplash is a very real injury.

Whiplash is most often associated with rear-end collisions. The sudden jarring motion of the neck can affect the discs, the muscles and the joints in the neck area. All of this can lead to serious problems that require medical care.

Oftentimes, whiplash is associated with pain. This pain can be caused by several factors, including muscle pain. It is also possible that the pain is caused by a herniated disc. When a herniated disc applies pressure to the spinal nerve root, even if that pressure is minor, sharp pains that shoot down the arm are possible. Other symptoms, such as tingling, muscle weakness and numbness in the arm are also possible.

When you have a pain in the neck, you might try to compensate for that pain by altering your movement. You might not even realize that your movements are altered. In some cases, the nervous system might change the pattern of movement. This is considered a faulty movement pattern.

Any injury in a car accident deserves medical attention. After you seek that medical attention, you might choose to look into your options for seeking monetary compensation for the injuries so that you can get relief from having to pay some of the associated costs.
