What are frontal lobe injuries?

Suffering from a brain injury is a horrible experience for anyone. While some people suffer from brain injuries that they can overcome, an injury to the frontal lobe of the brain can often prove to be devastating.

What is the frontal lobe?

The frontal lobe is the largest portion of the brain. It controls of a variety of aspects of your life, including your personality, social behavior, emotional behavior, sexual behavior, language skills and non-verbal communication skills. It is divided into two hemispheres: the right hemisphere and the left hemisphere.

What does the right frontal hemisphere control?

The right frontal hemisphere, which is associated with negative emotions, controls non-verbal communication and auditory signs. This means that the right frontal hemisphere can queue you in if someone is mad or scared. It helps you to process the emotions in facial expressions.

What does the left frontal hemisphere control?

The left frontal hemisphere, which is associated with positive emotions, controls your language abilities. It is said to be the portion of the brain associated with logical thinking.

How are frontal lobe injuries treated?

Frontal lobe injuries are often treated with rehabilitation. In some cases, the effects of the injury might be permanent. These injuries are often hard for loved ones to deal with because of the changes in personality that the person who was injured can experience. Regulating emotions, curbing impulsive behaviors, and regaining at least a portion of prior function are the goals of treatment. The course of treatment can be lengthy and costly for a person with a frontal lobe injury.
