Over 150 crashes pile up in Virginia and DC area due to snow

Car accidents can result in sudden injuries, deaths and life changes for those involved. Living in Washington, D.C., you're familiar with how quickly weather patterns can change and know that when the roads are bad, it's best to avoid driving. Recently, the poor driving conditions proved dangerous for over 150 people involved in crashes in Virginia. Two of the crashes resulted in deaths.

One incident involved a state trooper who was struck while in his cruiser. An out-of-control car slammed into his vehicle on the Capital Beltway. The officer was injured and had to be treated at a local hospital. In the two fatality cases, the men were involved in crashes due to losing control of their vehicles. One 40-year-old man died when his car slid into another vehicle, and the other 63-year-old man lost control and ran off the road, resulting in his vehicle overturning.

While the fatalities were recorded, the police reported over 150 crashes in Northern Virginia resulting from snowfall. It's been reported that the crashes have been listed as weather-related, although that does not necessarily relieve drivers from their liability for causing an accident. The news discussed the fact that heavy snowfall overnight made driving dangerous on the highways and roads through Loudoun and Wythe County, which is likely why so many accidents occurred.

In weather-related accidents, you may think that you don't have a case, but if it can be proven that the other driver was being negligent by speeding, talking on a cellphone, or texting, you may be able to seek compensation to cover the damage to your vehicle. When the weather is bad, it's important to pay attention, so these acts are not acceptable.
