1 teen killed, others injured in possible drunk driving accident

The last thing you expect when you get into a vehicle is that the vehicle will stop working as you are on the way to your destination. When your vehicle does have problems, you likely try to find the safest available place to park the vehicle. In some cases, even a place that should be safe isn't really all that safe because of the actions of other drivers on the roadway. Our Washington, District of Columbia, readers might like to know about a recent accident involving a disabled vehicle on the I-495 Inner Loop.

The accident occurred when a 2009 Honda Accord occupied by five passengers had to stop on the side of the loop. The driver of the vehicle pulled over on the right shoulder. That vehicle was then struck by another vehicle. That impact injured three of the passengers and killed another.

The passenger who was killed was a senior at Gonzaga College High School. The 17-year-old male was on the hockey team. The school's church dedicated their Sunday service to this teen.

The three people who were injured in the accident were all students at the same school. While their injures aren't considered life-threatening, one of the boys suffered a severe head injury. That teenager will need surgery.

The 24-year-old female driver who slammed into the disabled vehicle might have been impaired by alcohol. Authorities did confirm that it was possible, but failed to say if the woman was facing any charges in connection with the fatal accident.

Fatal accidents are far too common in this area. For the families touched by a traffic fatality and those affected by injuries suffered in an accident, seeing the at-fault driver stand before the criminal justice system might bring some comfort. In some cases, seeking financial compensation from that driver might also help to bring comfort, as well as a bit of relief from financial strain.
