When premises liability is used in Washington, D.C.

Premises liability has a direct influence on your case if you've been injured on someone's premises. For example, if you slip and fall on gravel, you need to know who is responsible for your care following the injury. Consider this: If you were hurt at a hotel but the business warned you of wet floors, they may not be liable. However, if they didn't tell you about the potential for injury, you could be able to seek compensation from them for your injury.

If you are at a shop when a crime takes place and you get hurt, that shop may not be liable for your injuries. Instead, the person who committed the crime may be the one who is responsible for compensating you. The same liability restrictions work in situations with colleges or school grounds, although there are some differences. For instance, if the school didn't provide enough cameras or safety points on the campus, then it might be held liable for the injuries because of not taking enough steps to prevent them.

An interesting point is that many governmental entities are immune from recovery when it comes to things like being hurt on a sidewalk. Municipalities do have a duty to keep streets and sidewalks safe, but if the damage is minor and could have been avoided, the person who was injured may be out of luck.

Another situation where you may be able to seek compensation is if you're mugged while taking money out of an ATM. Some banks have been held responsible for injuries to patrons caused by robberies, because there are few ways to protect clients from these attacks without around-the-clock security.
