Defendant dismissed in $10 million car accident claim case

Fatal car accidents are a tragedy that no family should have to deal with, but there are accidents that do turn fatal. When those accidents occur, the family members of the person who was killed might decide to seek compensation for the untimely and horrific death of their loved one. For the family of one woman who died in a Washington, District of Columbia, crash in 2011, the latest turn of events likely has them upset.

The accident occurred when a 64-year-old female pedestrian was struck in an intersection. The vehicle that struck the woman was a Swiss Embassy vehicle. Recently, a judge dismissed the man who was named in the civil lawsuit. The judge ruled that the man was entitled to diplomatic immunity since he was working for the embassy at the time of the accident.

In the civil lawsuit, the husband of the victim named the diplomat and the Swiss government as defendants. The victim's husband was seeking $10 million in the civil claim.

When you lose a loved one in a car accident, holding the driver who caused the accident accountable for the outcome might be desirable. Holding that driver accountable is one way that you can try to get closure in your loved one's death. It is also a way that you can cover some of your loved one's final expenses.

With a defendant in this case being dismissed from the case, there is a very important lesson our readers can learn. Knowing who to name as the defendant and what claims to make can often be complicated but determining those aspects of your case are important.
