District of Columbia car crash kills pregnant woman

Two women have been killed and others have been injured, following a hit-and-run accident. The car crash occurred on a Saturday night when they were occupants in a van with four other people. Tragically, one of the fatalities was 10 weeks pregnant. The District of Columbia driver has been apprehended and faces a number of charges.

Authorities indicate that a male driver was involved in a shooting and was operating a stolen vehicle when he was being pursued by law enforcement. In an attempt to elude police officers, the driver allegedly accelerated to an excessive rate of speed and slammed into a van that had a group of six people. The horrific collision caused unknown injuries to four occupants in the van and two of them were children.

A passenger in the stolen vehicle was also injured and was hospitalized. The crash claimed the lives of a 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old pregnant woman. The male driver was charged with negligent and vehicular manslaughter along with other charges.

The car crash has undoubtedly left the deceased victims' families devastated. The mother of the deceased pregnant woman will never get to share time with her daughter again or ever get to see her expected grandchild. Due to the alleged negligence of the driver, the families retain the right to file wrongful death lawsuits against him to recover damages. The court system in the District of Columbia may impose compensatory relief if evidence demonstrates the driver acted in a negligent manner that caused the deaths.
