Patient alleges surgical errors, negligence in malpractice suit

Whether for residents of Washington, D.C. or across the nation, a high quality of life is often directly linked with good health. To maintain good health, individuals place their well-being in the hands of doctors and surgeons. People have to be able to trust that their medical professionals are not only well-trained, but that they have their patients' best interests at heart -- before, during and after medical procedures. What is a patient to do, then, when surgical errors leave him in pain, and then the health care professional compounds the mistake by providing inadequate follow-up care?

This is just what one patient is alleging occurred, and he is suing both his physician and Lincoln Surgical Associates Ltd. as a result. The man filed a complaint in his local circuit court on Nov. 23, alleging medical malpractice following a medical procedure. He claims that there was an error during his medial gastrocnemius flap surgery, and that following the procedure, the defendants neglected follow up with proper post-surgical care.

The plaintiff asserts that, as a result of these actions, he is suffering mental anguish and great pain from the permanent, disabling and severe injuries incurred, as well as a loss of enjoyment of life. He also claims that he will require a number of additional surgeries that will be very costly. Because of this, he is suing each defendant for more than $50,000, in addition to legal fees.

If any resident of Washington, D.C. believes that he or she is the victim of surgical errors, it may be beneficial to contact a lawyer. An attorney with experience in similar medical malpractice lawsuits can offer advice on the victim's legal rights and the best course of action. If grounds for a malpractice suit are evident, the lawyer can work closely and diligently with the client in an attempt to secure justice and ensure that no components of the damages sustained are overlooked.
