Make insurance companies pay in Washington, D.C.

If you've been in an accident in Washington, D.C., you expect the person at fault to pay. That's not an uncommon idea, and most people would agree that it's fair. Unfortunately, there are several reasons a person's insurance won't pay out after a crash, and that means you might have to fight for the compensation you deserve.

It's not as simple as saying that the other party's insurance is going to pay for your injuries. In fact, the details of the accident play a major role in whether or not you'll receive compensation. For one thing, there must be direct evidence that the other driver was negligent. Liability insurance typically only pays out if the injured party is able to prove that the other driver is at fault. That can be done with evidence such as police reports and witness reports.

In some instances, if the other driver has a sudden medical issue that causes a car accident, you might have a hard time getting them to pay for your bills. For example, if a driver has a heart attack and loses control of his car, he might not be found liable for the incident. That's because he didn't receive warning before losing control, and he wasn't negligent in losing control.

If, on the other hand, a medical condition should have prevented the driver from being on the road, that can be a reason for being found negligent. In that case, you should have little trouble recouping the costs of your injuries.

There are several reasons insurance companies will try to get out of paying you for your injuries, but you don't have to stand by and let that happen. Seeking legal help if this happens to you is important, so you can get the money you need.
