Construction worker killed in unusual car accident

When individuals think about a car accident, they may typically think of a standard collision involving only motor vehicles. However, a recent car accident that occurred in the District of Columbia involved not only vehicles, but a construction worker as well. Unfortunately, that worker was killed as a result of the crash.

A driver was traveling on the parkway when she reportedly failed to maintain control of her vehicle. At that time, she ran into a parked car that had a portable light trailer connected to it. As a result of the impact, the light trailer whirled into the construction worker, striking him fatally. The 34-year-old man was beside the vehicle the trailer had been attached to at the time.

The female driver was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment of unknown injuries. She had been released at the time of the report. Traffic was at a standstill for several hours as a result of the accident. It caused both directions of travel to be shut down. As is customary with an accident of this magnitude, a thorough investigation is likely being conducted.

As the family deals with the lost of their loved one as a result of this tragic car accident, they may wish to take civil action against the driver. Although they are no doubt grieving, they may find themselves in need of monetary compensation to help cover any final medical expenses as well as burial expenses. While workers' compensation could help cover some of the expenses, the family still may be entitled to additional compensation in the form of a third-party wrongful death suit against the driver of the vehicle. Understanding the applicable laws in the District of Columbia may be the best first step in order to determine the best course of action which to take.
